In a bid to combat fraudulent activities during Ramadan, Dubai Police apprehended a young Arab man disguised in an abaya and niqab while begging near a mosque.
Begging is considered a crime in the UAE, particularly during Ramadan, as it involves deception and exploitation of people’s sympathy under the guise of charity.
Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, Director of the Suspects and Criminal Phenomena Department at Dubai Police, highlighted that the man adopted a female disguise believing that people would be more inclined to sympathize with women beggars.

The arrest came after a vigilant resident reported the suspicious activity to authorities, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in combating such crimes.
Dubai Police reiterated their warning against falling victim to scammers during Ramadan, urging residents to be cautious and refrain from engaging with beggars.
Earlier in the week, Dubai Police conducted intensive anti-begging operations, resulting in the arrest of 17 individuals, including both males and females. Offenders face fines of at least Dh5,000 and up to three months in prison, with harsher penalties for organizers and those using technology for illicit fundraising.

Authorities emphasized the importance of donating only to registered and legitimate charitable organizations to ensure that contributions reach those in genuine need.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or begging incidents to Dubai Police via hotline 901 or through the ‘Police Eye’ service on the Dubai Police smart app.
