Citing a senior US official, the report underscores escalating tensions between the two nations following Iran’s barrage of missiles and drones targeting Israel over the weekend. Although most of these projectiles were intercepted, Israel had previously issued warnings of retaliation.
The situation intensified early Friday morning as Iran fired air defense batteries amid reported explosions near a major airbase in the city of Isfahan, as per the state-run Irna news agency. While it remained unclear if the country was under attack, tensions persisted in the aftermath of Iran’s unprecedented missile-and-drone assault on Israel. Speculation arose suggesting that the explosions may have resulted from drone strikes, with one government official hinting at potential targeted sites.
