Abu Dhabi, UAE – The number of births in the UAE has risen by 3.3% over the last ten years, according to a report released by the Government Media Office on Tuesday. The report highlighted that 96,631 infants were born in the country in 2022.

The most popular male names in the UAE were Mohammed, Zayed, and Abdullah, while Maryam, Fatima, and Aisha topped the list for female names.

Despite the rise in birth rates, the UAE faces challenges related to fertility. The country has one of the highest rates of secondary infertility globally, which is the inability to conceive after previously giving birth. A study conducted by a UAE university in 2022 found that one in six couples in the country struggles with conceiving.

A UN report from 2021 also noted that the fertility rate in the UAE, which measures the average number of children per woman, had dropped to 1.4, a sharp decline from higher rates in the 1990s. Authorities continue to monitor these trends as part of their focus on population growth and family well-being in the UAE.
