New Low-Cost Indian Airline Eyes Emirates for Future Flights

Akasa Air, a low-cost Indian airline, has received the green light to operate flights to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar, as approved by bilateral agreements. The Indian government has granted permission for these operations, with flights expected to commence during the upcoming winter season. ‘

However, the airline is currently unable to operate flights to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to exhausted bilateral agreements between India and the UAE. Bilateral agreements are formal treaties that dictate the terms and conditions for airlines from two countries to conduct services between their respective nations. Vinay Dube, the CEO of Akasa Air, has expressed the need to review bilateral rights regarding flight capacity between India and the UAE.

Emirates’ Vice President for India and Nepal, Mohammad Sarhan, has also stated efforts to increase bilateral agreements for airlines and passengers’ mutual benefit. Akasa Air intends to fly internationally, targeting destinations within the range of a Boeing 737 MAX in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
