ICC World Cup 2023:New Zealand Dominates Bangladesh with Comfortable Victory

In match 11 of the ICC World Cup, New Zealand continued its ODI cricket dominance over Bangladesh, securing an impressive eight-wicket victory. The Black Caps comfortably chased down a target of 245 with just two wickets lost. This victory marked New Zealand’s 31st win against Bangladesh in 42 ODI matches.

Daryl Mitchell played a pivotal role in New Zealand’s successful chase, finishing unbeaten on 89 runs from just 67 deliveries. Captain Kane Williamson contributed 78 runs before retiring hurt. The victory reaffirms New Zealand’s strong performance in the tournament.

Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim’s impressive half-century led Bangladesh to a total of 245-9. Mushfiqur’s 66 off 75 balls, including six fours and two sixes, showcased his consistency in the format. This half-century marked his 48th in ODI cricket, and he played a crucial role in a 96-run fourth-wicket partnership with skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who scored 40 runs.

Trent Boult, the veteran New Zealand fast bowler, achieved a significant milestone in his ODI career, claiming his 200th wicket in the format. His achievement was highlighted when he dismissed Towhid Hridoy in the 38th over, caught at extra cover by Mitchell Santner. Liton Das, who was celebrating his 29th birthday, fell to Boult in the first over of the match.

Captain Kane Williamson made his return to the New Zealand side after missing the first two wins over England and the Netherlands due to a knee injury. Bangladesh had previously opened their World Cup campaign with a victory over Afghanistan before suffering a loss to England.
