Tropical Depression in Arabian Sea Set to Intensify, But No Direct Impact on UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued an alert regarding a tropical depression brewing in the southern Arabian Sea, which is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm within the next 24 hours. While this weather disturbance is developing, the Met department has reassured the public that it poses no direct threat to the UAE.

The primary effect of this system, as indicated by the NCM, is the eastward and southward movement of moisture from the Arabian Sea. This moisture is expected to lead to the formation of cumulus clouds, which will be accompanied by rainfall in certain areas of the country.

A previous weather forecast released by the NCM has outlined that various parts of the UAE are likely to experience rainfall over the upcoming weekend, with the wet weather extending until Tuesday, October 24. Over the next four days, the general weather forecast predicts a state of humidity with a potential for fog or mist formation in the mornings, particularly in certain internal and coastal areas.

The overall weather conditions will be fair and partly cloudy at times, though residents in the eastern region are advised to be prepared for rainfall in the afternoon. This rain is expected to be brought about by the formation of convective clouds.

Regarding wind patterns, the NCM forecasts light to moderate winds blowing from the southeasterly direction. However, these winds may change at times and could result in blowing dust, with wind speeds reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour.

In meteorological terms, a tropical depression is defined as a low-pressure area accompanied by thunderstorms that generate a circular wind flow with maximum sustained winds below 62 kilometers per hour. Should the cyclonic circulation become more organized with maximum sustained winds exceeding 63 kilometers per hour, the system will be upgraded to a tropical storm.

While the UAE is not expected to be directly impacted by the tropical storm, the NCM encourages residents and travelers to stay informed and take necessary precautions, particularly those in the eastern region who may experience rainfall in the coming days.
