UAE Unites to Extend Support to Palestinians Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict

From the President to royals, ministers, top officials, envoys, and residents, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has demonstrated unwavering solidarity and support for Palestinians as the Israel-Hamas conflict continues to impact the region. The UAE has rallied as one in an extraordinary effort to provide assistance and advocate for peace in this tumultuous period.

A Multifaceted Display of Solidarity:

  • United Voices at the United Nations Security Council: The corridors of the United Nations Security Council have echoed with Emirati calls for an end to the Israel-Hamas war. The UAE has passionately expressed its commitment to peace, urging for an end to hostilities and the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza strip.
  • UAE President’s Global Diplomacy: UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has been engaged in relentless diplomatic efforts. He has been in constant communication with world leaders, including those from Israel, the United States, the European Commission, Egypt, Jordan, and the United Nations. The primary goal has been to emphasize the urgency of protecting civilians and to facilitate the provision of life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza. Sheikh Mohamed’s presence at the Cairo Peace Summit further underscores the UAE’s stance against targeting civilians and its commitment to advancing initiatives for peace and stability in the region.

  • Emirates Draw: The UAE has been leading a global campaign to end the violence, particularly through the Emirates Draw. Magesh Kumar Natarajan from India recently became the first global grand prize winner of the FAST5, receiving Dh25,000 monthly for the next 25 years.
  • Advocacy at the United Nations: The UAE has taken its calls for peace to the United Nations’ Security Council. UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Lana Nusseibeh, delivered a powerful appeal to unite behind a resolution to end the war. She highlighted the dire situation in Gaza, where civilians are suffering, hospitals and schools have been bombed, and a million people have been displaced.
  • Cancelled Events in Solidarity: Several events have been postponed or canceled in recognition of the ongoing crisis. The Coca Cola Arena canceled performances by artists such as Egyptian singer Amr Diab, Sean Paul, and TI. Lebanese DJ Rodge, who was scheduled to perform alongside Amr Diab, shared the decision on social media, expressing solidarity with those affected by the Israel-Palestine conflict. The 2023 Fashion Trust of Arabia Awards, initially set to take place in Dubai, was also postponed, acknowledging the sensitivity of the situation.
  • Humanitarian Aid: The UAE has extended its support through humanitarian aid operations. The International Humanitarian City launched an urgent airbridge operation to transport essential medical supplies and food assistance to Egypt and Lebanon in response to requests from the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). This initiative aims to address the growing challenges arising from the ongoing crisis in the region.
  • Tarahum for Gaza Campaign: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) initiated the “Tarahum for Gaza” campaign, collecting donations for the besieged city. The campaign has seen an outpouring of support from volunteers, residents, corporations, and small businesses who have worked together to prepare relief packages.
