No Extended Break, but Residents Anticipate a Three-Day Holiday to Ring in 2024

The UAE private sector gears up for a two-day paid holiday on December 2 and 3 to celebrate the National Day, marking the unification of the Emirates in 1971. While this year’s dates won’t result in an extended break due to falling over the Saturday-Sunday weekend, residents can look forward to a three-day holiday at the end of 2023 and the start of 2024.

National Day Celebrations:

December 2 and 3, recognized as the UAE Union Day, are pivotal in honoring the country’s rich history and unity. The National Day celebrations, commemorating the 52nd year of the Emirates, will take place at Expo City Dubai. The official Union Day show hosted by Expo City will showcase the country’s sustainability story, emphasizing its commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.

Previous Year’s Break Comparison:

In 2022, residents were granted an additional day off on December 1 to observe Commemoration Day, formerly known as Martyrs’ Day. This, combined with the National Day holidays, resulted in a three-day break. However, this year, December 1 falls on a Friday, a regular working day, meaning no additional day off.

New Year’s Celebration:

While the National Day holidays may not extend the weekend, residents can still anticipate a three-day break at the end of the year and the beginning of 2024. January 1, 2024, falls on a Monday and is designated as a paid holiday. Combined with the Saturday-Sunday weekend, this offers a favorable start to the new year with three days off.

As the UAE turns 52 this year, the National Day festivities promise to be a vibrant celebration of the nation’s achievements and progress. The focus on sustainability at Expo City Dubai reflects the country’s dedication to fostering a resilient and eco-friendly future.
