In a commendable display of efficiency, Sharjah Police successfully located a missing 22-year-old individual with special needs after an intense 38-hour search. The missing person, identified as Saqlain Munir, a Norwegian national visiting the UAE, was found at a Sharjah hospital, bringing relief to his worried family.
Saqlain went missing at 10 pm on Thursday, prompting an immediate and frantic search by his family, particularly due to his unique condition. Azhar Munir, Saqlain’s father, expressed gratitude to the Sharjah Police for their swift action, stating, “We received a phone call from the police informing us about his whereabouts on Saturday at noon.”
Saqlain, who does not communicate verbally, had triggered deep concern among his family members. “Saqlain does not talk to anyone. We were continuously ringing his phone, but it was switched off,” shared Azhar Munir.
The father and son had traveled from Norway to the UAE for a vacation and were scheduled to depart for Pakistan on December 9 for Saqlain’s upcoming treatment. They had been staying with relatives in Sharjah’s Al Qasimiya neighborhood.

The incident unfolded when Azhar had to leave Saqlain at home briefly to attend to some work in Dubai. A delay in his return, caused by a stop at a restaurant for takeaway, led to Saqlain leaving the house during that time. Dressed in traditional Pakistani attire (kurta pajama), Saqlain left without his wallet and only with his mobile phone.
The family immediately filed a missing complaint with the Sharjah Police, who initiated a comprehensive search. Saqlain’s phone was later found near the Kasba Canal, providing a vital clue. The breakthrough in the case came 38 hours later when Sharjah Police located Saqlain in a local hospital.
Azhar Munir expressed his deep appreciation for the Sharjah Police, stating, “We deeply thank Sharjah Police for their quick action in locating Saqlain.” Hameed Basheer, Saqlain’s uncle, echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the police’s rapid response in ensuring the safe recovery of the missing individual with special needs.
