The advisory comes in the wake of alarming cases where residents were shocked by exorbitant water bills, some reaching as high as Dh17,000. One such instance involves British resident Peter Spencer, who received a staggering bill of Dh4,327 for water consumption during his vacation period. Spencer, a villa resident, expressed disbelief at the significant discrepancy in water usage, with his meter recording an unprecedented consumption of 80,000 gallons within just five days between December 26 and December 31. He remarked, “That’s 250 times my usual consumption of 60 gallons. The total for the leak was almost 80,000 gallons or 1 gallon every 5.5 seconds! I didn’t think water could flow so fast.”

Similarly, another resident, David Richard Spours, faced a similar ordeal. Upon returning from a summer break, he was shocked to receive a Dewa bill amounting to Dh20,179. The breakdown revealed a substantial portion (Dh16,992.38) attributed to water usage, stemming from a leak in his garden during his absence.

According to the bill, Spours had supposedly consumed 319,200 gallons of water, an amount equivalent to filling nearly half of an Olympic swimming pool.

The advisory issued by Damac Properties underscores the necessity for residents to take proactive steps to prevent such incidents, particularly during extended periods away from home. Closing water valves, electric breakers, and gas valves can significantly mitigate the risk of leaks and excessive water consumption, thereby averting inflated bills and potential property damage.

Residents of Damac Hills 2 are urged to heed the advisory and implement preventive measures to safeguard against unexpected financial burdens and ensure the efficient utilization of water resources. Damac Properties remains committed to addressing residents’ concerns and promoting responsible water management practices within the community.
