Delhi Capitals’ preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season faced a setback as fast bowler Lungi Ngidi was ruled out of the tournament due to a lower-back injury. Ngidi’s absence compounds the team’s woes after England batter Brook withdrew from the IPL following the death of his grandmother, leaving Delhi without two key players for their campaign.

In response to Ngidi’s injury, Delhi Capitals have named Australian all-rounder Jake Fraser-McGurk as his replacement. According to South Africa’s cricket board (CSA), Ngidi sustained the injury last month and is not expected to return to play until April, effectively ruling him out of the IPL season.

The IPL released a statement confirming Ngidi’s absence from the tournament and announcing Fraser-McGurk as his replacement. Fraser-McGurk, who has represented Australia in two ODIs, joins Delhi Capitals with a reserve price of INR 50 lakh.

The 17th season of the Indian Premier League is scheduled to commence on March 22, with defending champions Chennai Super Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening match at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Despite the setback, Delhi Capitals are gearing up for their fixtures, with home games scheduled at Vizag on March 31 against Chennai Super Kings and on April 3 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
