UAE Government Announces Eid Al Fitr Holidays for Private Sector Employees

The UAE government has officially declared the holidays for private sector employees across the country in celebration of Eid Al Fitr. The break will commence on Monday, April 8, and continue until 3 Shawwal of the Islamic calendar.

Holiday Duration:

  • If Ramadan lasts 30 days: The Eid break will span from Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29), until Friday, April 12 (Shawwal 3), providing a total of nine days off when factoring in the Saturday-Sunday weekends before and after the break.
  • If Ramadan lasts 29 days: In this scenario, residents will enjoy a six-day break, including the weekend. The Eid break will extend from Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29), until Thursday, April 11. Including the Saturday-Sunday weekend before the break, this totals six days off.

Significance: Eid Al Fitr marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, a time of fasting and spiritual reflection for Muslims worldwide.

Government Employee Break: Federal government employees were earlier granted a nine-day break by the UAE Cabinet, while those in Sharjah will enjoy a 10-day break due to the emirate’s public sector workers receiving three-day weekends.

Preparations and Festive Spirit: Residents are gearing up for the religious holiday, with preparations ranging from glamorous outfits to advance food preparations. Tailors have noted an increase in orders as expats get their clothes tailored ahead of visiting home for Eid. Families are already shopping for and cooking meals in anticipation of the occasion, reflecting the growing festive atmosphere in the country.
