A devastating fire that swept through a residential building in Sharjah’s Al Nahda area on Thursday night has left a community in mourning, as five residents lost their lives in the tragic incident. Among the victims were two Indians, identified as Michael Sathyadass and a 29-year-old woman from Mumbai, whose husband remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Michael Sathyadass, an employee of DXB Live at Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC), was remembered as a talented sound engineer who contributed to numerous concerts featuring renowned artists such as Bruno Mars and AR Rahman. His brother, Danny Sathyadass, paid a heartfelt tribute on social media, highlighting Michael’s dedication and behind-the-scenes contributions to the entertainment industry.

The second Indian victim, a recently married woman from Mumbai, tragically lost her life in the fire, while her husband continues to fight for survival in hospital. Family friends and social workers have provided support to the grieving families during this difficult time, with efforts underway to assist with funeral arrangements and necessary formalities.
Expressing condolences, the Consulate General of India has assured support to the affected families and extended wishes for the speedy recovery of those undergoing treatment. The fire, which engulfed the 9-storey tower housing 750 apartments, also claimed the life of a Filipina expat, with several others injured and displaced as a result of the blaze.
