Dubai, UAE – In a significant move aimed at enhancing the resolution process of disputes between domestic workers and their employers, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) has introduced new regulations that promise faster and more efficient outcomes. These regulations, announced last week, are designed to create a more equitable and fair relationship between both parties involved in employment disputes.

Under the new law, cases involving claims of Dh50,000 or less will now be resolved directly by Mohre, eliminating the need for court referrals. This streamlined approach is expected to significantly reduce the time and effort involved in dispute resolution. Should an amicable settlement not be reached within a designated timeframe, the dispute will be referred to the Court of First Instance as a last resort, rather than the Court of Appeals, thereby speeding up the legal process.

The new regulations also grant either party the right to contest Mohre’s decision by filing a lawsuit with the Court of First Instance within 15 working days of notification. This legal action will temporarily suspend the enforcement of the ministry’s decision, providing an additional layer of legal recourse for the aggrieved party.

Barney Almazar, a Dubai-based migrant rights advocate, praised the new regulations, stating, “In a nutshell, the new Mohre regulations save time and effort; streamline procedures, and expedite the procedure for claimants to collect their legal entitlements.”

These changes reflect the UAE’s ongoing commitment to protecting the rights of domestic workers and ensuring that disputes are resolved in a timely and just manner.
