Baghdad, Iraq – Iraq has formally lodged a complaint with the United Nations, condemning Israel’s use of its airspace to conduct strikes on Iran over the weekend, a spokesperson for the Iraqi government announced on Monday.

The strike targeted Iranian military sites, with Israel stating the attack was in response to recent assaults by Iran. Iran’s air defense system reportedly intercepted the strikes, which occurred in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces, resulting in “limited damage” according to Iranian sources. Witnesses reported multiple explosions in the Iranian capital and nearby military areas beginning shortly after 2 a.m. local time.

Following the incident, Iran briefly suspended flights within its airspace, later reopening alongside Iraq. However, tensions remain high, with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards commander warning Israel of “bitter consequences” for its actions.

In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei emphasized the need for a measured but decisive demonstration of strength. He urged Iranian officials to act in a manner that aligns with the nation’s best interests and underscores Iran’s resolve in the face of aggression.

The escalating conflict has drawn calls from the international community for restraint as both nations, equipped with powerful military capabilities, continue to navigate a complex and volatile relationship.
