Abu Dhabi, UAE — The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued a red alert early Monday morning as dense fog continues to blanket parts of the country, significantly impacting visibility in certain coastal and internal regions. The alert, which urges residents to stay vigilant due to potentially severe conditions, remains active with expectations that visibility may drop further until around 9:00 a.m.

In a warning posted on X, Abu Dhabi Police advised motorists to drive cautiously and follow variable speed limits displayed on electronic boards due to reduced visibility. These foggy conditions, part of the UAE’s seasonal shift toward winter, are expected to persist, bringing a distinctive chill with early morning temperatures dipping to 14.7ºC. Forecasts indicate temperatures will rise to 34ºC along the coast, with mountain regions seeing lows around 16ºC.

The NCM had also issued red alerts over the weekend, signaling further visibility reduction across parts of the nation. Today, while fog was anticipated in select areas, the general forecast predicts fair weather with occasional partial cloud cover. However, humidity levels are expected to rise by nightfall, leading to potential fog or mist formation in coastal and internal areas into Tuesday morning.

Light to moderate winds are forecast across the UAE, and seas are expected to remain calm in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.

As winter nears, foggy mornings are set to become a more common phenomenon. The NCM advises all residents and motorists to remain alert to changing weather conditions and check updates for safe commuting practices.
