Dubai, UAE – March 1, 2025 – The holy month of Ramadan has officially begun in the UAE after the crescent Moon was sighted, marking the start of the ninth month of the Islamic Hijri calendar. With the sighting, the month of Shaban concluded at 29 days, and Muslims across the country have commenced fasting and spiritual reflection.
Pleasant Weather and Shorter Fasting Hours
Residents observing Ramadan will enjoy comparatively pleasant weather during the first few days of the holy month. The National Council of Meteorology has forecast light rainfall and cloudy skies, providing a soothing backdrop for fasting.
This year, fasting hours will be shorter compared to previous years. In 2025, fasting durations are expected to vary between 12 hours and 58 minutes to 13 hours and 13 minutes, offering a slightly easier experience for those observing the fast.

Reduced Work Hours and Flexible Schedules
To accommodate the spiritual practices of Ramadan, work hours have been adjusted across the UAE. Private sector employees will work 2.5 hours less each day, while government employees will enjoy a 3.5-hour reduction from Monday to Thursday and a 1.5-hour reduction on Fridays.
Dubai has introduced additional flexibility for its government employees, allowing them to work five-and-a-half hours from Monday to Thursday and opt for flexible hours on Fridays.
School Timings Adjusted
Schools across the UAE have also adapted their schedules for Ramadan. Public school students have the option to choose between online and in-person learning on Fridays, while private schools in Dubai have been granted the same flexibility.
