As the UAE anticipates the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, key dates and insights have been provided to help residents prepare for the spiritual and culturally significant period. Ramadan 2024 is expected to commence on Tuesday, March 12, based on the Hijri calendar published by the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD). The following information offers essential details for residents observing Ramadan in 2024:

1. Fasting Hours:

  • Fasting hours during the initial days will be 13 hours and 16 minutes, gradually extending to nearly 14 hours by the end of the month.
  • The duration of fasting will be shorter in 2024 compared to 2023, offering a period of reflection and spiritual practice.

2. Ramadan Duration:

  • Ramadan is expected to span 29 days, with the last fasting day anticipated to be Tuesday, April 9, according to the IACAD calendar.

3. Weather Conditions:

  • The beginning of Ramadan aligns with the spring season in the UAE, promising cooler temperatures, contributing to a comfortable fasting experience.

4. School Break:

  • Schools will be closed for either the spring break or end-of-term break around the commencement of Ramadan, allowing families to observe the holy month together.

5. Eid Al Fitr 2024:

  • The festival of Eid Al Fitr is scheduled to follow Ramadan, providing residents with an extended break.
  • The government has declared Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3 as a public holiday, resulting in a six-day break from Tuesday, April 9, to Sunday, April 14, when considering the weekend.
