The Sharjah Government’s Department of Human Resources has announced the Eid Al Fitr holiday schedule for public sector employees, aligning with the Islamic lunar calendar. The holiday will commence from Shawwal 1 to Shawwal 3, 1446 AH, with official work resuming on Shawwal 4, 1446 AH. Employees working in shifts, however, will continue their duties as usual.
The exact dates of the holiday will depend on the sighting of the Moon, which will be observed on March 29, 2024. If Eid Al Fitr falls on Sunday, March 30, government employees in Sharjah will enjoy a five-day holiday from Friday, March 28, to Tuesday, April 1. Conversely, if the festival begins on Monday, March 31, employees will benefit from a six-day long weekend, spanning from Friday, March 28, to Wednesday, April 2.

Sharjah government employees already enjoy extended weekends, adhering to a four-day workweek. Since January 2022, government departments in the emirate have operated on a three-day weekend schedule, with employees off on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The announcement follows the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources’ declaration of Eid Al Fitr holidays for federal government employees nationwide. Eid Al Fitr, celebrated on Shawwal 1, marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is one of the most significant Islamic festivals.
As the UAE prepares for the Moon sighting on March 29, residents eagerly await the official confirmation of the Eid Al Fitr dates. The Islamic calendar months last either 29 or 30 days, making the Moon sighting a crucial determinant for the holiday schedule.
Sharjah’s extended holiday plans reflect the emirate’s commitment to employee well-being and work-life balance, further enhancing its reputation as a progressive and employee-friendly government.
