The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced changes to taxi fares for New Year’s Eve, introducing dynamic pricing and a temporary increase in the minimum taxi fare from Dh12 to Dh20 at certain locations during major events. The ‘dynamic fares’ will be applicable to both regular metered taxis and Hala taxi services. Dynamic pricing involves fare fluctuations based on demand, usually during peak hours when there is high demand for transportation.

The fare increase and dynamic pricing will be in effect only in specific areas in Dubai where fireworks displays are scheduled on New Year’s Eve. The new flag-down rate and dynamic fares will apply from 6 pm on December 31 to 6 am on January 1 at locations such as Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, Hatta, Al Seef, Bluewaters, The Beach, and Global Village.
The RTA emphasized that the changes in minimum taxi fare and dynamic pricing are introduced to improve taxi services during major events like New Year’s Eve, catering to increased demand from residents, visitors, and tourists.
Furthermore, the new flag-down rate and dynamic fares will be applicable during major event days, exhibitions, and international conventions at specific locations, including World Trade Centre, Expo City, and Global Village. The RTA aims to enhance and develop both regular taxi services and Hala Taxi’s e-hail ride service to meet the demand during significant events.

While taxi fares may see temporary increases during peak times and specific events, commuters are encouraged to explore alternative transportation options, including Dubai’s well-connected public transport system. The Dubai Metro and Tram will run non-stop for 40 hours starting at 8 am on December 31 until the end of January 1 for the Metro and from 9 am on December 31 until 1 am on January 2 for the Tram.
Additionally, the RTA plans to deploy a fleet of 230 buses available to the public free of charge on New Year’s Eve to provide alternative transport options and reduce traffic congestion. Commuters are advised to utilize public transport, especially in well-connected areas with Metro and Tram stations, to ensure a smooth and convenient travel experience.
