Indian-curriculum schools in the UAE are in the midst of conducting or preparing for their half-yearly assessments, with many having completed their syllabi shortly after the summer break. These exams, which follow India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) guidelines, mark an important period for students, particularly as schools have incorporated India’s National Education Policy (NEP) into their curricula.

Pramod Mahajan, principal of Sharjah Indian School, shared insights on the updated exam format: “Exams in our schools began three days ago. These days, tests are very application-based, with case studies, as per the NEP.” He highlighted that the CBSE curriculum now focuses on developing cognitive skills, including foundational literacy and numeracy, as well as higher-order skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving. The shift in examination patterns aims to enhance students’ analytical abilities compared to previous formats.

Transparent Revision Plans

In an effort to keep parents informed, schools like The Millennium School in Dubai share detailed revision plans ahead of time. “This has been appreciated by our parents, as it brings clarity and transparency to the process,” said Ambika Gulati, principal of The Millennium School. She also noted that students were encouraged to practice model question papers during the summer holidays, which are later reviewed during revision classes to help them identify areas for improvement.

Unit Tests and Full-Length Exams

For students in Grades 10 and 12, schools are administering shorter unit tests this October, while other grades will sit for full-length exams before the winter break. Gulati emphasized the importance of a well-structured assessment calendar that allows sufficient learning time, ensuring students are prepared for their exams.

Wellbeing Remains a Top Priority

Schools are also placing a strong emphasis on student wellbeing. Regular counselling sessions are held to help students manage stress and prepare for exams. “The half-yearly assessments are just around the corner for our students. They are set to begin on October 7. In preparation, the week leading up to the assessments is entirely dedicated to revision,” said Deepika Thapar Singh, CEO and principal of Credence High School.

She encouraged students to develop personalized study plans, revisit classroom materials, and maintain a balanced routine that includes regular breaks, exercise, and proper nutrition. This holistic approach ensures that students are both academically and emotionally prepared to handle their assessments with confidence.

With exams approaching, UAE Indian schools are prioritizing both academic excellence and student wellbeing, fostering a supportive environment for students during this crucial period.
