In response to the heavy flooding caused by thunderstorms on Thursday, all federal government offices and schools in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will conduct work and classes remotely on Friday, October 27. The directive was issued by the UAE Council of Ministers. However, federal employees whose physical presence is necessary at their workplace are exempt from this order.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has urged all private sector companies to “apply flexible work patterns” on Friday in light of the current weather conditions. Companies are expected to take necessary measures to ensure outdoor work complies with occupational health and safety requirements. Additionally, they must ensure the health and safety of workers commuting to and from outdoor work locations.

The heavy rain and thunderstorms that struck the UAE on Thursday led to safety advisories issued by the police across the country. Waterlogging caused bottlenecks on various roads. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, issued a directive stating that all government agencies in Dubai would operate remotely.

Numerous private schools in Dubai have informed parents that classes will be conducted online on Friday. Many schools suspended classes early on Thursday, and activities were either canceled or moved online due to the adverse weather conditions.

Dr. Ahmed Habib from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) explained that the UAE is affected by an extension of surface low pressure, and rains of varying intensities are expected in the coming days.

The measures are aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of the public in the face of inclement weather conditions.
