Dubai Health Authority Urges Influenza Vaccination Amid Rising Infection Concerns

As the winter season unfolds in the UAE, residents are increasingly susceptible to respiratory infections such as Influenza, prompting the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) to issue a strong recommendation for influenza vaccination among certain groups.

Influenza A and B viruses are prevalent during the winter months, while Influenza C infections occur throughout the year. With fluctuating weather patterns contributing to the spread of infections, health authorities are advocating proactive measures to safeguard public health.

The DHA has underscored the importance of influenza vaccination, particularly for individuals at higher risk of contracting the disease. These include:

  1. Healthcare providers
  2. Children aged 6 months to 5 years
  3. Elderly individuals aged 65 years and above
  4. Pregnant women at all stages of pregnancy
  5. Pilgrims
  6. Individuals with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, heart diseases, lung diseases (e.g., asthma), chronic liver disease, and chronic kidney disease

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) further recommends that all individuals aged 6 months and older should receive the annual influenza vaccine. While the vaccine may not provide complete immunity, it significantly reduces the severity of illness in case of infection.
