UAE Takes Firm Action Against Exam Cheating

Amid recent reports of cheating during end-of-semester exams, the Emirates School Education Foundation has announced stringent measures to combat academic dishonesty in the UAE. The Foundation confirmed that students found guilty of cheating will face severe consequences, including receiving zero marks for the exam.

  1. Zero Tolerance Policy: Students caught cheating during exams will receive zero marks for the respective exam. This strict stance aims to uphold the integrity of the examination system and deter future instances of cheating.
  2. Legal Consequences: Employees implicated in facilitating cheating will be referred to the public prosecution under Federal Decree Law No. (33) of 2023. This law addresses fraud and disruptions within the examination system, highlighting the seriousness with which such offenses are treated.
  3. Penalties for Offenders: A federal law introduced in February 2024 imposes fines of up to Dh200,000 on individuals involved in cheating-related activities. These include leaking exam content, modifying grades, or impersonating students. Offenders may also be ordered to perform community service for up to six months.
  4. Disciplinary Procedures: For students caught cheating, disciplinary actions will be initiated in accordance with established conduct rules and regulations. These procedures are consistent with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education and educational authorities across the Emirates.
  5. Definition of Cheating: The law defines cheating broadly, encompassing any attempt to obtain or leak exam-related information through illegal means. This includes the use of electronic devices or other unauthorized methods during exams.
  6. Applicability: The regulations apply to both governmental and private educational institutions, including schools, universities, and colleges. This ensures uniformity in addressing cheating across the education sector.

The introduction of these measures underscores the UAE’s commitment to maintaining academic integrity and promoting fairness in the examination process.
