Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” Showcases Extravagant Mughal Jewellery Craftsmanship



Sanjay Leela Bhansali, known for his opulent cinematic style, is set to mesmerize audiences once again with his upcoming drama series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” scheduled for release on May 1 on Netflix. The recently released trailer has already captivated viewers with its stellar cast and the extravagant costumes and jewellery featured in the series.

In this lavish saga, Bhansali delves into the world of Basra pearls, intricately adorning pieces like the Pasa, Tika, Nath, and necklaces, paying homage to the rich heritage of Mughal jewellery craftsmanship. Vinay Gupta, the founder of the jewellery brand responsible for designing the elaborate accessories for the film, shared insights into the collaborative journey with Bhansali, highlighting the profound dedication and craftsmanship poured into the project.

Gupta revealed that the meticulous effort spanned three years, with their studio entirely dedicated to the task. “More than 10,000 pieces and over 300kg of jewellery were meticulously crafted, each piece a testament to the commitment to reviving centuries-old artistry,” Gupta elaborated, underscoring the relentless pursuit of bringing Bhansali’s vision to life.

Reflecting on the experience, Gupta expressed joy in reconnecting with his heritage and legacy, being from a family of treasurers for the Mughals over 200 years ago. “It wasn’t challenging, but the joy of going back to my roots, heritage, and legacy was the highlight,” he shared with News18.

As anticipation builds for the release of “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” audiences can expect a visual spectacle that celebrates the grandeur of Mughal jewellery craftsmanship, seamlessly woven into Bhansali’s cinematic narrative.
