The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has raised alarm over the deteriorating situation, highlighting the devastating impact on civilians. Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza: Citing reports, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Lana Nusseibeh, described the dire conditions in Gaza. The region has been under relentless and indiscriminate bombardment for nearly two weeks, following an attack on Israel on October 7. Bombs are being dropped on UN schools and buildings where people seek safety, exacerbating the crisis.
Ambassador Nusseibeh underscored the dire situation in Gaza, referring to the evacuation order for over a million people as an “impossible demand” that violates international law. She lamented the attack on the Al Ahli Baptist Hospital, which resulted in the tragic loss of more than 500 lives. International law unequivocally protects hospitals and medical personnel.
Calls for Immediate Action: In response to this humanitarian catastrophe, the UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, spoke with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The UAE urged immediate action, including:
- Cessation of Hostilities: An immediate halt to the ongoing hostilities is essential to protect civilians.
- Unconditional Release of Hostages: The release of all hostages is paramount for conflict de-escalation.
- Safe and Unhindered Humanitarian Access: Humanitarian aid workers must have secure access to deliver life-saving supplies to those in need.
Ambassador Nusseibeh reiterated that the protection of civilians must be the top priority. She emphasized the urgent need for reestablishing essential services, including electricity, water, and telecommunications.

Humanitarian Aid and Assistance: Nusseibeh pointed out that humanitarian aid is currently accumulating at the Egypt-Gaza border. Furthermore, the UAE government has pledged an additional $70 million in aid for Gaza, aiming to alleviate the growing humanitarian crisis.
