Eid Al Fitr Celebrations: Prayer Timings and Rituals Across the UAE

As Muslims eagerly anticipate the joyous occasion of Eid Al Fitr, preparations are underway across the UAE for the special congregational prayers and festivities that mark the end of Ramadan. The UAE’s Moon sighting committee will convene Monday evening to determine the official sighting of the crescent moon, signaling the start of Eid. If sighted, Eid will be celebrated on April 9; otherwise, it will be observed on April 10.

The festivities commence with a special prayer held at mosques and open-air places of worship called musallahs shortly after sunrise on the first day of Eid. Here are the prayer timings across various Emirates as announced by authorities:

Dubai: The prayer will be held at 6:18 am.

Sharjah: Mosques and musallahs will host the prayer at 6:17 am.

Abu Dhabi: Eid prayer will be held at 6:22 am in Abu Dhabi city and 6:15 am in Al Ain.

Ajman and Umm Al Quwain: Prayer timings are expected to be the same as Sharjah, at 6:17 am.

Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah: Prayer timings in these Emirates are a couple of minutes behind Sharjah, at 6:15 am.

It is advised to leave for the mosques soon after offering the Fajr (dawn) prayer.

The Eid prayer is a congregational prayer consisting of two units (raka’ah). The Imam leads worshippers in offering multiple takbirs (proclamations of “Allahu Akbar” – God is Great) before reciting the surah Fatiha and another chapter from the Quran in each unit. At the conclusion of the prayer, the Imam delivers a two-part sermon, which Muslims are encouraged to listen to attentively.

Following the prayer and sermon, Muslims exchange heartfelt greetings of “Eid Mubarak” with their loved ones, embracing each other and embarking on a day of joyous festivities, feasting, and celebration.

As the UAE prepares to welcome Eid Al Fitr, the spirit of unity, compassion, and gratitude pervades the air, fostering a sense of community and togetherness among its residents.
