As the UAE prepares for another bout of challenging weather conditions, certain regions of the country have been placed under a yellow alert, signaling the possibility of adverse weather effects. Additionally, the east coast is expected to experience strong winds, with speeds reaching up to 40kmph.
The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has been actively coordinating efforts with the Joint Weather and Tropical Assessment Team, comprising representatives from key government agencies such as the Ministry of Interior and the National Centre of Meteorology. Through a series of meetings, authorities have reaffirmed the nation’s readiness to confront the impending weather situation and have assured the public that proactive measures are in place to mitigate any potential impact.
Addressing concerns regarding the intensity of rainfall compared to the weather event on April 16, experts from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) have clarified that while the UAE is bracing for challenging weather conditions starting Wednesday, it is not expected to mirror the severity of the rainfall experienced earlier.
Dr. Ahmed Habib, a weather specialist at the NCM, has provided insights into the expected weather patterns in the upcoming days. Moderate to heavy rainfall, occasionally accompanied by lightning, thunder, and a probability of hail, is forecasted over scattered areas. Dr. Habib emphasized that May 2-3 is identified as the peak of the weather situation, with rain of varying intensities expected along with thunder and lightning.
Areas that received rainfall on Tuesday include eastern and northern regions of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, with Abu Dhabi experiencing light to moderate rainfall in several areas. In Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, Ajman, and Fujairah, scattered areas witnessed light rainfall.
Forecasts indicate that inclement weather will commence from the west by Wednesday night, extending over most parts of the country on Thursday, particularly western, coastal, and some eastern regions. Significant decreases in temperatures are also anticipated, with the influence extending eastward from Abu Dhabi due to local factors.
Factors contributing to the unstable weather conditions include an extension of surface low pressure from the Red Sea and humid south-easterly winds, resulting in cloud migration from Saudi Arabia towards the UAE, expected to commence late Wednesday night.
Improvement in weather conditions is projected from Friday to Saturday, with the gradual movement of the low-pressure system towards the south. While there will be a thinning of cloud cover, the possibility of rainfall persists, particularly over southern areas. Strong winds, ranging from south-easterly to north-easterly, are expected intermittently, with moderate to rough sea conditions anticipated, especially in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.
