Maluku, Indonesia – A 5.1 magnitude earthquake shook Indonesia’s Maluku province on Tuesday, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The quake’s epicenter was located 249 kilometers from the Tanimbar Islands at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface.
No reports of casualties or significant damage have been received at this time, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
This follows a 5.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the city of Labuha in Maluku province just a day earlier on Monday. Fortunately, no casualties or major damage were reported in that incident either.
Indonesia, situated on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” is prone to seismic activity and earthquakes, making these recent events part of the region’s regular tectonic activity.
