Dubai’s Iconic Sheikh Zayed Road to Close for Annual Dubai Ride Cycling Event

Part of Sheikh Zayed Road and surrounding streets will be closed on Sunday for the annual Dubai Ride cycling event

On Sunday morning, November 12, a segment of Sheikh Zayed Road, a major thoroughfare in Dubai, will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic as cyclists take over for the annual Dubai Ride cycling event. The closure will affect both directions of Sheikh Zayed Road from the Trade Centre roundabout to Safa Park interchange (2nd interchange).

Additionally, Lower Financial Centre Street and Trade Centre Street will also be closed. The duration of the road closures has not been officially announced, but in previous years, they were in effect for approximately five hours, from 4 am to 9 am. The Dubai Ride event is scheduled to take place from 6:15 am to 8:15 am.

To mitigate disruptions, motorists are advised to plan their routes in advance. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has provided alternative routes for drivers, including Al Hadiqa Street, Al Wasl Street, Al Khail Road, Al Meydan Street, Al Asayel Street, 2nd Zaa’beel Street, 2nd December Street, and Al Mustaqbal Street, to reach their destinations.

Dubai Ride is a flagship event of the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC), initiated in 2017 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai. The event offers two cycling routes suitable for riders of all skill levels, allowing them to pass by several iconic landmarks in Dubai, including the Museum of the Future, Dubai Water Canal, Burj Khalifa, and other attractions along Sheikh Zayed Road and Downtown Dubai.

Last year’s Dubai Ride edition witnessed participation from 34,897 cyclists, making it a highly anticipated event for fitness enthusiasts and cycling aficionados in the city.
