The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has initiated efforts to receive 1,000 Palestinian children and their families from Gaza for urgent medical care in the country, following the UN Security Council’s adoption of the first resolution on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN, announced that the work has already begun, and the first group is expected to arrive within the coming week.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan had directed the country to provide medical treatment to injured Palestinian children from Gaza in Emirati hospitals. The adoption of the UN resolution calling for “urgent and extended humanitarian pauses and corridors” in Gaza has paved the way for the UAE to establish an emergency field hospital in the region.

The resolution, which emphasizes the need for a sufficient number of days for humanitarian pauses, is crucial for the UAE’s plan to set up a 150-bed field hospital in Gaza. The UAE has already transported the necessary medical equipment and supplies to Al Arish Airport in Egypt, awaiting the establishment of extended humanitarian pauses for the hospital’s deployment.
While welcoming the adoption of the resolution, Nusseibeh stressed that it is only the beginning of the global response to the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. She emphasized the urgency for Israel to cease attacks on civilians and civilian objects, uphold international law protections for hospitals and schools, and ensure safe and unhindered humanitarian access.
The envoy reiterated the UAE’s condemnation of the recent Israeli raid on Al Shifa Hospital, emphasizing the need to protect such healthcare facilities. Nusseibeh urged the international community to work collaboratively to find a lasting solution to the conflict and emphasized the shared responsibility for peace and security in the region.
The UAE’s commitment to providing medical assistance to Palestinian children reflects its dedication to humanitarian efforts and alleviating the suffering caused by the conflict in Gaza. The international community continues to monitor developments in the region as efforts are made to address the humanitarian crisis and promote peace.
