Residents Return as Fire in Sharjah Building Quickly Contained

Residents of a building in Sharjah’s Al Majaz 2 area have begun returning to their apartments following a swift response from authorities to extinguish a fire that broke out on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred at a residential tower located on Jamal Abdul Nasir Street, prompting immediate evacuation measures by civil defence, ambulances, and police teams.

The fire, which started around 1 pm local time on the 10th floor of the 13-storey building, led to a rapid deployment of emergency services. Residents recounted moments of panic as alarms rang out, urging them to evacuate swiftly from the affected floors. “Smoke was spreading fast in the apartments so people were panicked. Some of the people who were taking showers came out running in towels. I just took my mobile and came running. Everybody came out running, leaving their doors open,” shared one resident.

Authorities acted swiftly to bring the blaze under control, ensuring the safety of residents and containing the fire before it could spread further. “Electricity and power have been restored in my apartment and a few others. But many are still without utilities. A few tenants are back in the building, but many have relocated to other places,” mentioned AZ, another resident, highlighting the ongoing efforts to restore normalcy.

Residents expressed relief and gratitude that there were no casualties reported and praised the efficient response of emergency services. “I was in my office when I was informed by my family about the fire. I came running, and thank God, they were out of the building, safely evacuated,” said MZ, reflecting the community’s collective sense of relief.

As authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and support affected residents, the incident underscores the importance of prompt emergency preparedness and response in safeguarding lives and property during such unforeseen events.
