Thick fog descended upon several parts of the UAE on Thursday morning, prompting authorities to issue warning alerts across affected areas.

Residents woke up to a dense fog shrouding the usual cityscape, significantly reducing visibility on key roads. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued red alerts due to foggy conditions in parts of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Ras Al Khaimah, with yellow warnings raised for most parts of the country.

The foggy conditions disrupted normal activities, with motorists urged to exercise extra caution while driving. Speed limits were reduced to 80kmph on certain roads in Abu Dhabi as a precautionary measure.

The fog affected crucial transportation hubs, including Sharjah International Airport, Ras Al Khaimah Airport, and Al Maktoum International Airport. Key areas such as Jebel Ali, Expo City, Al Khawaneej in Dubai, and Kizad and the Al Dhafra region in Abu Dhabi experienced poor visibility.

Residents shared images depicting the severity of the fog, with views obscured even on well-traveled roads. The conditions are expected to persist until 9 am, according to the NCM.

Once the fog clears, fair to partly cloudy weather is anticipated for the rest of the day, with temperatures gradually rising. However, light fog may return on Friday morning, particularly in coastal and inland areas.

Authorities advise residents to stay updated on weather alerts and exercise caution while commuting until the foggy conditions subside.
